Koinonia Coffee House
Comments (0) | Submit a Comment

I just discovered this wonderful coffee shop! I had heard about it and was pleasantly surprised to experience firsthand that it really is a wonderful place to grab a cup of coffee! The barista is also the pastor of the neighboring church. On top of now having another place to grab a cup of coffee and study, Koinonia also has family nights on Friday evenings! They alternate with a live band & karaoke night. Call first, because sometimes the place is booked for an event. I can't wait to have a karaoke night with my family in this wonderful Christian place!

Location:
10405 Comanche NE, Albuquerque
The corner of Comanche & Morris, on the north side of Comanche, just after traffic light.

Ice Skating for the Whole Family
Submitted by Michelle Zaina | Comments (0) | Submit a Comment

OK, so maybe you’ll never execute a Triple-Toe-Loop…and the closest you’ve gotten to the Winter Olympics is watching it on TV. But ice skating is a great activity for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a way to pry the family off the couch in the dead of winter, need an alternative to the X-Box for the kids, or are looking for a fun date idea, skating is it!

Our complete list of Ice Skating rinks for Bernalillo County New Mexico:

Tips for Ice Skating
If it’s been awhile since you hit the ice – or are a complete novice – experts offer these suggestions;

· Keep your head up and your knees bent. This is probably the best piece of advice you’ll get, since it keeps your weight forward. Leaning backwards is the surest way to take a spill. Also, if you do fall, its far better to fall on your hands versus your head.

· Get comfortable taking small steps on the ice. Eventually, you’ll be able to glide on each step. Work on transferring your weight from one foot to the other, pushing your weight through the balls of the foot.

· Children as young as three or four can start learning the basics of skating. Kids of all ages need proper safety precautions, like a helmet (hey, that ice is HARD!). Kids who are just learning to skate may find it helpful to push a chair (within a supervised class, of course).

If all else fails, relax -- it’s perfectly fine to hang on to the side of the rink!

Historic Day Trip to Salinas Pueblo Missions
Submitted by Maria Pardo | Comments (0) | Submit a Comment

Looking to drive out of town? But not spend a hefty amount on an overnight trip?
Take a pleasant drive to some local New Mexico sites. A trip we recently made was to the Salinas Pueblo Missions. In particular, the Quarai Mission was a great visit. Take a walk through the old ruins and enjoy a lovely drive on the back side of the mountains - all the roads are paved, also, which is a bonus for those who get nervous driving off the beaten path. Admission to Quarai is free (although they accept donations). They also have picnic benches at the location.

For driving directions and further information on the sites, check out the National Parks website.

Art Attack Night Out
Submitted by Larissa Lusko | Comments (0) | Submit a Comment

Art Attack is a fun, hands on family night activity. This "paint-your-own-pottery" studio offers plates, mugs, vases, clocks, etc. for purchase. Then you paint the item yourself via freehand or using stencils for a nominal fee. It's fun watching the creative side of your spouse and kids come to life on ceramic pieces you'll have for many years. Saturday is family day.

This is also a fun "date night" activity. Wednesday is 2-for-1 paint fee.

Visit Art! Attack for more information.
